ProCardio Center for innovation, led by Professor Kristina Haugaa, is a research-based innovation center focused on advancing the field of cardiovascular medicine. Our goal is to develop, test, and quality-assure tools that can accurately predict disease progression in individual patients, offering insights into potential future treatments and allowing for optimal intervention to prevent further disease development.
Heart disease can affect individuals at any age and can manifest as chronic conditions or sudden cardiac arrest. The ProCardio center aims to contribute new methods to improve the outlook for patients with heart disease and prevent cardiac arrest. Currently, healthcare professionals spend significant time searching through patient records for crucial information, which can be buried in lengthy reports and other medical documents. Our innovative methods will utilize heart imaging, heart rhythm tests, and genetic testing to aid healthcare professionals in accurately diagnosing patients, tracking disease progression over time, and estimating the risk of adverse events such as cardiac arrest. Artificial intelligence will play a pivotal role in enhancing patient follow-up.
From idea to product
The journey from concept to product is of great importance to us. Many heart diseases have a chronic nature and worsen over time, such as valve diseases, heart failure, heart muscle diseases, and heart damage resulting from cancer treatment. Identifying the ideal time to initiate treatments, such as heart valve surgery or insertion of an implantable defibrillator, is crucial. The optimal timing for intervention varies on an individual basis. ProCardio will develop new methods to determine each patient's disease course and identify the optimal treatment timing, aiming to minimize suffering and prevent sudden death.
At ProCardio, our team of researchers and industrial partners collaborate closely to ensure that our ideas translate into tangible products that directly benefit patients.
