Youth Outreach Team

The Youth Outreach Team is an interdisciplinary team that follows up on young people aged 16–26 with issues related to substance use, who are not in established and functioning treatment. This may include young people who are entering or exiting residential treatment, those in outpatient treatment where attendance is a challenge, or those who are not in treatment and are uncertain about whether they want or need treatment.

Our goal is to help patients transition into the types of treatment they want and need, and to assist them in establishing the healthcare they require. We also collaborate with other stakeholders in hospitals, neighborhoods, and municipalities or schools, providing guidance and consultation related to helping young people who also have substance use issues. Our catchment area includes the entire population of Oslo.

Youth Outreach Team is a multidisciplinary team of four people who meet with young individuals aged 16 to 26 with problematic substance use in places and ways they are comfortable with. We aim to lower the threshold for accessing treatment. We can also have conversations with individuals who are unsure about wanting treatment, and we can talk to those actively using substances. We work flexibly in various settings and can meet where it suits the individual: on a bench in the city, at a café, or while taking a walk.

Youth Outreach Team aims to cover the vulnerable transitions in and out of inpatient and outpatient treatment, helping young people in need so they can access and benefit from treatment or follow-up at the right place and level. Additionally, we want to collaborate with and assist partners in treatment, follow-up, clarification, and motivation support for young people with substance issues, particularly those who do not utilize established services or who have dropped out of other treatment and follow-up programs.
