Section for Adult Substance Use Disorder Treatment

We offer interdisciplinary specialized assessment and treatment for those who want to change their life situation. We provide a differentiated and individually tailored treatment program with a focus on physical, mental, social, and environmental therapy for adults with substance use and addiction disorders. Our admission area includes the entire population of Oslo, except for the districts of Grorud, Stovner, and Alna.

Differentiated treatment is tailored to the individual by adjusting the need for small/large units, framework conditions, matching, and any previous hospitalization experience.

The Goal

The goal of the treatment is to improve the life situation. The treatment consists of group therapy, individual therapy, environmental therapy, education, and physical activity. For the patient to benefit, active participation in their own treatment is required. Patients should have personal goals for the treatment.
The treatment is based on a humanistic view of humanity with a holistic focus on addiction, physical and mental health, and social conditions. All patients have an interdisciplinary treatment team consisting of a psychologist/doctor, social worker, nurse/healthcare worker, and environmental workers.

Length of Treatment is clarified in the initial phase of treatment and can be up to 6 months of inpatient care. Treatment benefits are assessed continuously.
We strive for total abstinence from both legal and illegal substances, as intake can affect treatment benefits.
To achieve optimal results from the treatment, abstinence from substances and active participation from the patient are required.

Methods

Our main methods are cognitive therapy and motivational interviewing. Cognitive therapy focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions. Automatic thought patterns can be destructive. We aim to help the patient become aware of their thought patterns and find alternative ways of thinking and acting.
We also work from motivational interviewing, where we explore ambivalence and motivation to create change.

Target Group

Women and men over 26 years old with various types of substance dependence, primarily illegal substances. Patients often have long-term dependency conditions. Additionally, most have physical/mental ailments.
The section offers voluntary treatment according to the Specialist Health Services Act § 3-12.

You have the right to receive information about your health, illness and treatment in a language you understand. As a patient with a limited knowledge of Norwegian, you are entitled to an interpreter in your preferred language.

Det er internettilgang på de fleste byggene og sengepostene på Ullevål. Forhør deg der du skal på time, eller legges inn. Du må ha med eget datautstyr. Ansatte kan hjelper deg med kode for tilgang, hvis det kreves kode.

Biblioteket (1. etasje i pasienthotellet, bygg 10) tilbyr tilbyr gratis WIFI og har fire stasjonære PC-er der du kan surfe, søke i databaser, ta utskrifter, kopiere og skanne. Her kan du også låne både faglitteratur, skjønnlitteratur, bøker og andre medier og samtidig få hjelp og søkeveiledning av våre spesialbibliotekarer.

Hotellets kafé og kiosk er bemannet hele døgnet. Her får du kjøpt kaffe, mineralvann, øl, vin, diverse utvalg av kaker, baguetter, salater, iskrem og et enkelt kioskutvalg.

Hotellets kafè er bemannet hele døgnet. Her får du kjøpt kaffe, mineralvann, øl, vin, diverse utvalg av kaker, baguetter, salater, iskrem og et enkelt kioskutvalg.

Dagligvarebutikk (Kiwi) på Ullevål sykehus

Det er også mulig å kjøpe varm og kald mat på dagligvarebutikken, som ligger mellom byggene 2 og 11, ved Espresso House og apoteket.

Use the parking garage to the right after entering from Kirkeveien. Alternatively, you may use one of several smaller outdoor parking areas on the hospital grounds.
Please note that it can be difficult to find available outdoor parking, especially in the southern area near Kirkeveien.

Parking fees apply every day, 24 hours a day.

Parent Parking

Parents/guardians or companions of children admitted to Ullevål Hospital may park free of charge in staff parking spaces in the parking garage.

This applies if the child is under 18 and is hospitalised.

Please note that parking capacity may be limited at times, and you may need to search for available spaces outside the main area around the garage.

Instructions:
  • Park your car and contact the treating unit to confirm the child’s admission.
  • Remember to note and bring your vehicle’s registration number.
  • Show the confirmation at the reception in the Children’s Centre or at the Security Desk at the main entrance of Building 4.
  • No visible ticket is required in the windscreen. Your registration number will be recorded electronically, and you will receive a receipt via SMS if you provide your phone number.
  • Already paid parking will not be refunded by the hospital.

Emergency Births

In case of emergency childbirth, a reserved “emergency” parking space is available directly outside the entrance to the Women’s Clinic. The vehicle may remain there for a maximum of one hour before being moved to a regular parking space.

Disabled Parking

Individuals with a valid disabled parking permit may use reserved spaces strategically located around the area. In addition, all paid outdoor spaces may be used free of charge. The permit must be visibly displayed for inspection.

The hospital provides qualified interpreters for patients who do not speak Norwegian. Interpreting services are free of charge for patients. Relatives must not act as interpreters at the hospital.

​Kapellet på Ullevål sykehus

Ullevål har kapell i Lab-bygget (bygg 25) og stillerom i Sentralblokka (bygg 4) og på Kreftsenteret (byg​g 11).

Kapellet benyttes til båreandakter, begravelser og syninger av døde. Rommet er tilrettelagt for bruk av alle tros- og livssyn.

Vi ber om at pasientene i størst mulig utstrekning ikke tar med seg verdisaker ved planlagt innleggelse. 

Mindre verdisaker som lommebok, kontanter, smykker og nøkler kan sykehuset oppbevare i en verdipose i et spesialsikret rom. Verdisakene leveres inn ved innleggelse og utleveres ved utskrivning.

Større ting må oppbevares på post eller overleveres pårørende.
