Department of Substance Use Disorder Treatment

The Department of Substance Use Disorder Treatment (ARA) works to provide a differentiated, locally based treatment offer based on the individual patient's needs. The treatment is based on recognized knowledge and research. The department is responsible for interdisciplinary specialized substance treatment (TSB) for the entire population of Oslo, with the exception of the districts of Grorud, Stovner, and Alna.

The department consists of six sections located at Aker Hospital, Ullevål Hospital, and Gaustad Hospital.

The department has a substance use emergency reception that is open 24/7 for acute treatment.

The department also offers: detoxification, outpatient clinic, and inpatient treatment including medication-assisted rehabilitation (LAR).

The department has coordination responsibility for all patients from its own catchment area in Oslo who are referred for inpatient treatment in public and private facilities.

The department has a national competence center for the treatment of substance use disorders, ROP disorders, and personality disorders - NRAPP.

Patient and family education is a focus area for the department. The department serves as a professional advisor to Helse Sør-Øst RHF.

The head of ARA is Espen Kristian Ajo Arnevik.

You have the right to receive information about your health, illness and treatment in a language you understand. As a patient with a limited knowledge of Norwegian, you are entitled to an interpreter in your preferred language.
