Genetic markers

Here you will find an overview of the genetic markers used in the section’s DNA analyses. The selection of markers and the scope of the analysis are determined by the specific case and the required evidential value.

Main analysis (total of 23 autosomal markers)

Fusion 6C Promega (accredited analysis):

• D3S1358, THO1, D21S11, D18S51, D10S1248, D1S1656, D2S1338, D16S539, D22S1045, vWA, D8S1179, FGA, D2S441, D12S391, D19S433, SE33 (ACTBP2), Penta E, D5S818, D13S317, D7S820, CSF1PO, Penta D, TPOX, and the sex marker Amelogenin.

Duplicate analyses of all markers are performed as part of internal quality control.

Extended analyses (up to 23 autosomal markers, 25 Y-chromosomal markers, and 12 X-chromosomal markers)

Forensic experts determine the need for extended analyses based on the results of the main analysis.

In-house developed analysis kit (accredited analysis)

Analysis of 5 autosomal markers, 2 of which overlap with markers in Fusion 6C:

• APOAI1, D11S554, D17S906, Penta E, and D12S391.

Argus 12 X Qiagen (accredited analysis)

Analysis of 12 X-chromosomal markers:

• DXS10103, DXS8378, DXS7132, DXS10134, DXS10074, DXS10101, DXS10135, DXS7423, DXS10146, DXS10079, HPRTB, and DXS10148.

PowerPlex YFiler+ Promega (accredited analysis)

Analysis of 25 Y-chromosomal markers:

• DYS19, DYS385a/b, DYS389I, DYS389II, DYS390, DYS391, DYS392, DYS393, DYS437, DYS438, DYS439, DYS448, DYS449, DYS456, DYS458, DYS460, DYS481, DYS518, DYS533, DYS570, DYS576, DYS627, DYS635, Y-GATA-H4, and DYF387S1.

SureID27 Health Gene Technologies (accredited analysis)

Analysis of 26 autosomal markers and the sex marker Amelogenin.

• Six markers overlap with Fusion 6C: D1S1656, D2S441, D10S1248, D12S391, D16S539, and D22S1045. Five markers overlap with HD-Plex: D3S1744, D4S2366, D6S474, D8S1132, and D21S2055.
• The remaining markers are: D5S2800, D7S3048, D9S1122, D11S2368, D13S325, D14S1434, D15S659, D17S1301, D18S1364, D19S253, D20S482, and D22-GATA198B05.
