PRC Contributes to EU Cancer Mission Discussions on Quality of Life
The EU Cancer Mission Showcase Event, held in Brussels from 29 September to 1 October 2026, brought together stakeholders from across Europe’s cancer community to reflect on five years of the EU Cancer Mission and discuss priorities for achieving its 2030 goals.

The three-day programme covered topics ranging from prevention and early detection to personalised treatment, quality of life, survivorship and palliative care, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, innovation and translating research into real-world impact.
Morena Shkodra represented the PRC by participating as a panel speaker in the session “Quality of Life, survivorship and palliative care: holistic quality care models and patient engagement,” contributing perspectives from JANE-2, the EU Joint Action on Networks of Expertise on Cancer. The session highlighted the importance of looking beyond cancer treatment and survival to address patients’ quality of life, long-term needs and meaningful engagement in care.
A key takeaway from the discussions was the importance of embedding patient-centred care across the entire cancer care pathway, rather than viewing it primarily through the lens of palliative or end-of-life care. The discussions also highlighted the value of collaboration across countries and sectors, meaningful patient involvement, and the use of digital tools and patient-reported information to enable more personalised and holistic care, with a strong focus on implementation, sustainability, and translating these approaches into practice for the future.
